I went to Fukuoka by ferry!

July 14, 2013  rainy & cloudy

My partner and I take a 5-day holiday. Since it is not so long a holiday, we decided to train ourselves in some bouldering gyms in Fukuoka, which has far more gyms than Kyoto does.

On the evening of July 14, we got on a ferry called "Suo," leaving Kobe at 20:00 and arriving at Moji at 8:30 the next morning. I love a trip by ferry, because you spend one night in the ferry, totally relaxed. You take a bath immediately after you get on the ferry and enjoy meals at the restaurant. Especially in Ferry Suo, which is operated by Hankyu Ferry in Fukuoka, you feel as if you were already in Fukuoka, because of the staff members being so kind and friendly to everybody, which I think is characteristic of people in Fukuoka, and the food served at the restaurant which is delicious. Fukuoka is famous for its food. In fact, anything you eat in Fukuoka tastes fabulous!

For someone who is thinking of going to or from Fukuoka, let me tell you the transportation cost. Hankyu Ferry: tourist class B (4 bunks in a room) costs ¥7,400 per person. Peach Aviation (one of the *LCCs in Japan) : economy class (only economy class available) costs ¥5,560 including airfare and all charges needed.  We came back to Kansai Airport from Fukuoka Airport by peach on July 18. While it takes hours to get to Kyoto from Kansai Airport, it takes only about 15 minutes by underground to Fukuoka Airport from the city centre of Fukuoka, which is absolutely convenient.

*LCC stands for Low Cost Carrier.
