A friend of mine, Mr K, recommends that I should write my blog in English, saying it will be open to the world. I don't quite agree with him, but at least it seems a lot of fun to me, so I'll have a try!
Today, I came to Gravity Research Namba, Osaka with my partner. I succeeded in the bouldering problem called "ESPER" (3Q), which means a person with extra-sensory perception, in Shiga pref last week, so my partner and I decided to practice lead climbing today. Here in Gravity Research Namba you can enjoy both lead climbing and bouldering.
It is a long time since I tried lead climbing last. As I prefer bouldering, unless my partner mentions lead climbing. I focus on bouldering. However, I feel I should try any style of climbing. By trying different types of climbing, I experience different moves, which i believe leads to improving my climbing skills.
Anyway, I start with a 5.10b route. It is so easy that I reach the goal on sight. I feel happy about it, and go on to another route, 5.10c. However, there occurs a problem. My parter, who is belaying me below, cries out to me, "You are lead-climbing just as you are bouldering. You depend on your hands and arms too much! You must pay more attention to your feet." After my partner points it out, I try to climb differently in many ways from bouldering, but I can't. It seems as if I were doing a long bouldering problem, not lead climbing!
On that day, I try 8 routes ranging from 5.10b to 5.11b, and succeed only in the routes, 5.10b and 5.10c. That's not satisfactory at all. I feel I should regularly practice lead climbing.
P.S.
Leaving Gravity Research Namba, my partner and I walked straight to the beer restaurant, which is on the first floor in the same building. As soon as we sat at the table, we ordered two "deluxe" glasses of Sapporo beer and said "Cheers!" to each other. I wondered why I was in Namba. Is it for climbing or for beer? It is too difficult a question to think about now. I've already drunk some amount of beer. O.K. I'll think about it tomorrow!
