This time of the year is the most beautiful in Kyoto. I am sure most of the people living in or visiting Kyoto agree with me. One of my favourite places to enjoy cherry blossoms is the Kamo river. Walking, cycling, sitting or singing under cherry trees along the river, you feel as if you were dreaming in a sakura world.

"shidare-zakura," the one whose branches hanging down
from the tree
The most famous kind of sakura is called "somei-yoshino, " whose petals are whitish pink. They will be in full bloom earlier than other kinds of sakura, perhaps during the first week of April. If you miss these kinds of sakura, I recommend you should go up the north to Kitayama St. along the Kamo river, where you can enjoy another kind of sakura called "sidare-zakura," which will be in full bloom a week later than "somei-yoshino."

This tree is located near Kyoto Botanical Gardens.
Sakura, or cherry blossoms are just there for you to enjoy.
